I have been given a used Chef with attachments.

On use, it sounds like the gears are grinding noisily. i thought I would try a clean and relube of the gearbox.

I was wondering if it could have worn bearings

1) does anyone have any experience of whether my diagnosis and action are sensible

2) are there any tricks or procedure to use?

I have not yet started taking it apart.

It has a flat nose and a green reset button

motor undercover is black plastic

Model is A901

Serial is 0834139

I do not know about yours John but an old Kenwood we used to have was a real noisy beast & apparently always had been.

I know someone who has a similar machine, and mine is certaiinly noiser and sounds more grating :(
