A few years old now it has started to pop and whistle as it boils water. I seem to recall the old Morphy Richards (lasted 30 years) did this prior to the element going.

The new(ish) Kenwood has no furring as the water is soft.

Is this popping a sign of impending doom? What is the first course of repair to attempt.

Thank you.

Personally I would bin it, if there are no signs of limescale build up on the element. If there was I would use a scale reducer/cleaner. Does your electric installation have RCD protected sockets, if so plugging the kettle into one of these circuits would be a simple method of diagnosing an earth leakage fault on the element.
But I do not think the element is replaceable!
So I recommend you buy new!
