hi all. Our Grant condenser boiler with a RDB2.2 Burner is not firing up properly. its stopping and starting in a loop, terrible smell of unburnt kerosene in the air.

Things I have tried today so far.
Cleaned Photocell with cotton bud - Photocell and black rubber shaft has load of black soot on it.
Unscrewed Filter at bottom of Kerosene tank and a cleaned fair bit of crap off the filter and cleaned the bowl - put back , still doing same not firing up (well goes to light but then cuts out, goes to light again in a loop) - Radiators in the house are all getting hot still …

Tigerloop glass bowl is all full of kerosene - tank has plenty of kerosene in it so not sludge at bottom of tank issue.

Next I was going to try look for filter in the oil pump and give it clean if needed - then after that clean main burner jet filter just in case thats blocked or even replace main jet if needed.

Am I going in right direction, anything else I should check or any other filters I have not mentioned?

thanks,
Andy.

Sorted within minutes of posting this I went out, took off blast tube and cleaned electrodes and jet and its firing up now and staying fired up - hopefully fingers crossed that is all it was , I am just keeping an eye on it.

most likely a bit of rubbish ( biological growth and corrosion)has made through the filters to the fuel nozzle. your fix will last a little while but will almost certainly need a new nozzle and then it will need setting up with an anaylser

yes your most probably correct , there is even a filter behind the jet on this burner . im just gonna keep an eye on it. A new jet wont break the bank but a analyzer would . In that case I will get someone to come out and do it

Photocell shouldn't really have soot on it. Sounds like the combustion might be out on it . Any black ish smoke coming out the flue ?

yes thats the strange thing - the only smoke come out of the flue is the white condensation and its not smelly unburt kersosene smell (when its working right - when its not starting right like today it was smelling then) but yeah the inside of the flue is black and sooty so yeah it most probably needs a good tune-up/service and most probably running too rich
