have been doing a fair bit of chiselling with my SDS...cutting a channel in a wall and the SDS just packed up...working one minute and then just a loud buzzing the next...

Took it back and got it swapped out (which was a result as otherwise i'd have been stuck!) but the new one gets SO hot when prolonged use.

Some of it was hard work...very hard brick...at one point I had green grease come out the air vents on the sides and to be fair the body of the drill was almost too hot to touch. had to let it cool down every 20 mins or so...

Is this wrong? am I just over using/abusing it? I would have thought an sds, especially a dew alt) should be able to work for long periods without overheating????

I'm tempted to strip this one and re grease it...as I;m not sure I;ll get another swap out if i kill this one!

The hammer stop facility is for light chiselling so yes you are abusing it. If you're looking at doing a lot of chisseling you need to look at getting a heavier duty machine.

Agreed - despite it being a good manufacture, this drill at 2kg simply isn't designed for chiseling.

You've probably damaged the long term life of the replacement one you've got by using it to that extreme as you've described.

Got to get the right tool for the right job.

get a bosch blue,

hells bells if your having to rest it because it feels like its melting then its not the correct tool for the job in hand.
