killed with one punch

I

imamartian

there is a recent story, and many others where people have died from receiving one punch... and from what i've read the perpetrators received anything between 2 and 20 years for the crime.. what do you think?

for me it's not murder, and should be treated with leniency... imagine you're in a queue for a kebab and some idiot starts messing with your wife.... and you challenge them.... it's likely that you'll have to throw a punch realistically isn't it? and what if the tw@t dies?

ONe punch is not the same as pouring petrol through a letterbox, or carrying a knife, or aiming your car at someone who's sh@gged your wife !!!

something needs doing !

a fight's a fight ffs... murder is something so much different isn't it??

What if it was a rabbit punch to the throat?
The assailant would probably know the possible outcome, the verdict may be different, than punching someone with an unknown heart defect.
I don't think you can generalize, every scenario needs to be considered, carefully.

A punch, a hammer blow, a stab, a shot, all equals the same - death.

Murder 1 is going eqipped, ie with cause, and a weapon, 25 years, hitting someone, then they die, 3 years? Because they banged their head, and died, still cause and weapon. Justice system not working.

lol to be fair, a rabbit punch is a particularly accurate blow, which most people in a street fight wouldn't even know existed.

Proving it was done on purpose would be so impossible in court that it probably wouldn't even be considered!!

Happened to someone I know too. Gentle giant standing up for himself, got punched, head hit floor, dies from his injuries.
The bloke that done it was well known to the police, troublemaker with a bit of form. Not guilty verdict on a manslaughter charge.
Wrong in my eyes, totally wrong.

You know what bugs me - all this rabbiting about hypothetical justice .You`d have to be as wiley as a coyote to know how a jury can go . You might just get let off or hit hard like an anvil dropping on your head , or a ton of bricks . That`s if it gets to court in the first place - if the Old Bill get off their arses before you do a roadrunner . Whole justice system is looney tunes . That`s all folks

The big problem today is the decision to prosecute in such cases isn't left up to the police. It's the responsibility of the CPS. They will only go for prosecution where there's a good chance of securing a guilty verdict. Sentencing too is a farce. Compare sentences today for any crime , compared to 30 yrs ago. There's a big difference. Magistrates and judges are now bound by government dictats on sentencing, simply to stop prison overcrowding.

If there isn't enough room in prisons today for criminals, then the obvious way forward , is to build more prisons. This would help the construction and security industry, creating jobs and keeping scum off the streets. Society has gone soft these days.

Society has gone soft these days

Much of society doesn't have a say any more. The liberal elite have seen to that!

Yes, and the education system is infested with liberal lefties. The kids are brain washed with lefty tree-hugging, climate change, pc, anti US, anti British Empire, anti Christian, isn't the white man a nasty capitalist imperialist wife-beating slave-trading barbarian type stuff. Lodging this negative, defeatist stuff in their impressionable minds ensures that the lefty liberal agenda is self perpetuating.

Other countries, encourage their kids with positive motivation. Ours are made to wallow in guilt for something that happened centuries ago.

How true Whitespirit, I'm sure if David Cameron reads this, he'll be up in front of parliament apologising for the witch hunts in medieval times, whilst apologising for the English Civil War.
We'll see President Sarkozy of France apologising for the Norman Conquest, Silvio Berlusconi apologising for the Romans and Angela Merkel apologising for 2 world wars
I suspect we may not here from the Danish leader for the Viking's raping and pillaging though. ;) ;) ;)
