Kitchen-aide dishwasher

Hello!
Can anyone tell me how to do the maintenance on this appliance? It is not washing very well, no matter the setting. I do not know where to add salt but suspect this is on the back of the door. My soap is not dispensing well and tends to not get completely used, whether it is liquid or dissolvable pack.
I am fairly adept at repairs on a variety of things but this is the first dishwasher we have had. It came built in with the house when we bought it three years ago. The dishwasher has gotten gradually worse. BTW, we have city water and it is not overly filled with minerals or 'hard'.

oh, i did find access to a free on line manual on my 2nd attempt with google, you only get free on line access while they post you a new one, must be me then i guess.
