Width wise they usually project forwards to the front of the door and are scribed to the wall at the back, bottom is also scribed to the floor if they are full height ones, if not cut to match carcase size which is usually 720mm
Again there are two ways to do it, either have them longer at the bottom and run the pelmet into them, this can also be done at the top if its a modern suqare cornice. Or trim them to carcase height and run the pelmet back around the sid eof the units. All depends on the look you want.
