Having replaced the bulb in one of my downlighters, the fitting no longer sits snugly to the ceiling. I want to remove it to check what the problem is. Is there a knack to releasing the spring-loaded wings without damaging the plasterboard?

Thanks

not really, all i do is pull the fitting down a little and use my fingers to ease the springs from firing out

No they are a pain and the likelihood is that damage will be caused.
It is most probably the lamp housing that is causing the obstruction, it may have worked loose from the trim, when you replaced the lamp.

WHy on earth did you need to take the whole lamp out of the ceiling??.

Usually you change the lamp by taking off a spring clip or turning the lamp-retaining bezel.
