Hello friends.

I am wanting to install an extractor fan in my new kitchen, however, the electrics in the house are not as you would expect...

The electrics for the ceiling light is wired at an (inaccessible) junction box stored somewhere in the ceiling, the loop circuit is contained within this junction box, meaning that the permanent live is at the light switch, not the ceiling rose.

My question is, how is it best to make all 4 (perm, switched, rtn and earth) connections to a switched isolator to then go onward to the fan?

If all else fails, my backup plan is to take a 5a fused spur from a socket and drop the switched live (the fan does have a humidity sensor in it (an Xpelair CV4SR)

Looking forward to your replies.

Cheers

Why would you need to do that? Kitchen extractor fans do not require a 3-pole isolator switch.
Thanks Terry. Just to confirm my understanding, your recommendation is to go with my backup plan and take a 5a fused spur and drop the switched live?

Cheers
I think you are confusing kitchen fans with bathroom fans.

Pick up the supply from socket to a fused ,switched ,connection unit. ,and from that you can wire direct to the fan. Why do you need a switched live and a permanent one ?

Permanent, switched and neutral into the isolation switch.. earth for continuity.

I have a ceiling extractor fan… not an extractor hood.

For the overrun.

Ok. Then you would need to introduce a switch ,after the FCU. And run 3 core and earth to the extractor from there.
