Hi there,

We're laying tiles down in a kitchen and are wondering whether we should tile the whole floor, even under the units? We haven't put any kitchen units in yet...

Thanks,
Cara

I would always say yes as its more likely that the floor will outlive the existing kitchen layout.

I tiled wall to wall, the last thing you want if you replace a kitchen is to have to retile the floor. Just make sure you leave enough time between tiling and fitting the cabinets for the floor to set in place.

If you dont tile where appliances are going to sit, you will have problems installing & removing appliances.

All well and good, but depends on how expensive the tiles are. If for instance they are marble, then this is going to add considerable expense. If they are plain white tiles then fine no probs.

Kitchen unit should sit on floor tiles for the standard height of the worktop, if you want to save money you could pack the base unit up with plywood etc.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies. We'll tile the whole floor. They're ceramic tiles, terracotta ones which weren't overly expensive so we should be able to tile everywhere.

Thanks again,
Cara
