Hi all,

I'm looking for a bit of help/guidance.

We've decided to have the wall taken out between the small kitchen and the dining room, I'll get someone in to do that part then I'll put a new floor down and new kitchen.

I ripped up the tiles from the kitchen floor and although the first few came up nice and easy which left a very level floor, the rest didn't!

1. What's the best way to take the self levelling compound off the Red tiles underneath so I can lay the Karndean joining on from.the hallway and dining room (when the wall has been taken out) (see photo).

2. Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Regards
Simon

OP,
1. You've jumped the gun, the kitchen floor should have been left alone until the wall was removed.
2. Your best bet now would be to remove the wall as soon as possible. Leave the floor alone for now.
3. Is the kitchen floor a solid floor or a suspended floor? Is the dining room floor solid or suspended?
4. Are both ceilings at an equal height?
5. Whoever drops the wall must be aware of the pipes, and possibly electrics in the dividing wall.
6. Was the dividing wall ever an outside wall?

Why not come back with pics after the wall is down?

3. The kitchen floor is solid whereas the dining room is suspended with approx 3ft underneath.

4. I'm not 100% sure about the height of the ceiling, I hope so!

5. All cables and pipes will be removed before hand.

6. No, the wall is in the middle of the house.

I will post pictures when the wall has been removed.

I was hoping there would be a sander or similar I could use to remove the high bits, or totally remove to show the Red tiles.
Looking at the height of the Karndean in the hallway I would then need to glue the new Karndean directly to a level subfloor instead of prepping with 6mm Plywood.

Thanks for replying, I'll pop back when the wall has been removed.

That floor very likely needs a a liquid DPM coat before any screed or flooring goes down. You’ll need to moisture test with at least a protimeter and preferably a hydrometer box
