Kitchen renovation - Mixing Thistle Bonding Coat?

P

pna

Hi all.
I'm in the process of refitting my kitchen - the electrician was in today and fitted new sockets and I have attempted to 'make good' the chases and a couple of badly damaged areas using Thistle Bonding Coat. I will then be coating the whole room (largely old plaster) with Thistle Bond-it prior to the plasterer skiming the whole lot for me on Friday.

However, despite the instructions saying it will set in 1.5 to 2 hours, after 4-5 hours, its still damp and cracks are appearing. Have I added too much water or done something else wrong?
Thanks,

bonding is for low suction backgrounds like painted brick, it can be used for chases, the cracks are shrinkage because of the suction, dont worry about it, it will set.

Thanks jbonding - the plasterer told me to use bonding coat primarily to repair a section of the plaster around the door lintel that had fallen away, but he also said it could be used for the chases. After 12 hours, its still drying...hope its ready by tomorrow!

Its fine dont worry,

Your always better applying the finishing coat while the base is still wet. helps adhesion and prevents the underlying plaster sucking all the damb water out of the top coat.

Think master plasterer SIR JB will confirm this

JB,

On this subject, what is "Hardwall" I went to get a bag of bonding last week and was told there was a shortage ???? Eh ??? went to 3 further builders yards to find NO one had any... one place tried to sell me hard wall... Ended up doing it with Sand cement

hardwall is similar to browning but sets harder ;)
