Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if all kitchen taps have a standard length water inlet.

I have just fitted a new solid wood 40 mm work top in the kitchen, cut out the hole for the Belfast sink, drilled out the holes for the taps inserted the taps to find that there is not enough thread showing , so I cannot attach the hot and cold water water pipes.

Is it the case that I have to attack the work top with a chisel to make the work top shallower or can I get different taps with longer threads?

Cheers

Can you not attach flexi hoses to taps and then thread thru sink :?:
Obviously you will need to see if there is enough clearance in your sink holes to accomodate the flexis.
Worth a try but if not maybe the others can help :)

Last kitchen taps I installed (my own) had a good 60-80mm of thread which was hard work to wind the backnuts over with very limited access.

Bahco is right though if you want to keep the taps that you have you will need to counterbore the underside of your worktop -
However, the taps need to be secured with a backnut before you fit the flexi's so you will need enough space to get a tap tool onto the flange nut of the flexi.
As you have drilled you tap holes already I'd suggest using a router with a cutting guide (bit of plywood clamped to the worktop) or a holesaw being careful to set a depth stop followed by judicious chiselling.

If it were me I'd take the taps back and swap for some that can be installed through the worktop properly.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys.

I am off back to the shop to see if they have any correct fitting taps. If not then out with the power tools and blind faith!!!!!
