The tiles were cut because the kitchen units would've been too high otherwise. Should I replace tiles 'a' with the uncut ones and replace tiles 'b' with cut L-shaped ones?

If you have reduced the height of the tiles due to cabinet position, then the tiles going up to the cooker hood should be full height tiles...I have just complete similar area.

Just make sure a&b have their cut edges at the bottom then no need for corner cuts in B, carry on above with full tiles.
