Hi, we have a set of double doors on the conservatory. The handle on the door has gone floppy. It works, but is very loose. The door wont latch, you have to lift the handle and engage the locks. Occasionally it gets stuck locked, this is very inconvenient (the key turns fine, its just the handle that feels screwed)!

The guy who fitted the conservatory some 6-8 years ago says we'll need a new door. However, is it possible to purchase a new mechanism? The doors are in as-new condition, we dont want to change them. Which parts would we be looking at changing and could a competent DIYer do this?

Yeah, I know. Though to be fair, he said this while on the conservatory roof in gale force winds fixing it FOC.

I took my car to his brother's garage with a worn wiper blade, he told me I'd have to buy a new car.

Any half decent locksmith or UPVC repairer will resolve the problems for you at a fraction of the cost of new doors. New mechanism and bit of adjustment.

Nothing too difficult in fitting and adjusting, just that you'll need to identify and source a replacement mechanism - loads of places on the internet that will help you do this.

I cant find a mechanism with the top and bottom shootbolts. Are these a seperate item? Do they simply attach to the main part of the mechanism? Mine is a 2 hook, one deadlock mech. I gather that the hook parts have a place to attach these shootbolts?
