Knots in skirting boards

Hi.
The skirting has some large knots, do I drill them out and fill or is the something I need to treat it before priming for white gloss.

coat with knotting solution.

...or if you haven't got/can get that you can use French polish. They are fundamentally very similar - it's the shellac in both which does the work
