Any koi keepers on here, looking for tips as I am digging a 2400 gallon pond.

I would like advice on the bottom drain, as I am having my filter on ground level. Also do I tie in the base to the walls?

Anyone got any pictures.

Many thanks for any help.

Reviving an old thread here and as the OP didn't get any replies I'm not holding my breath...but are there any koi keepers still on here?
If Andy is still about...did you get your pond done?

Nice one. You might be able to give me some advice please?

I have just got planning through for an extension onto my house.
The garden at the front is at ground floor level, but at the back it is a couple of feet lower.
So one idea I had was to build a koi pond a couple of metres from the house and then bridge the gap with decking or similar. I'm thinking of something similar to this photo...

Firstly what depth of water do I need?

Secondly, would it be wise to build over slightly with the decking to give a shaded area?

Thirdly, does this also have to have planning/building regs?

Oh and where's the pictures?

Hi B&S,

You need 1.5 depth for Koi.

Koi don't really need shading and any plants will be eaten.

No planing or building regs.

I guess it's doable then if I dig down as well. I'm guessing I would need fairly substantial footings to stop the sides from giving out?
Thanks for the link.
How do I send a private message...is it "start a conversation"?
Thanks.

My pond bottom is 250mm of concrete with the walls built with concrete blocks laid flat.
You will also need a bottom drain-this is very important.

Not sure how to send a message but have a go with 'start a conversation'.
