Thanks, John.

I've looked for specific advice concerning my exact error message and not found much to help. Are MS helpful? What do you think?

Grrr.

It's getting worse...now I can hardly open any websites without IE freezing and now OE6 is causing errors on closing, too:

msimn caused error in SFOE0001.DLL

Wonder if I can re-install IE??

No luck!

Tried to fix the old one first, no joy.

Re-installed it, nothing. Boo.

Do you have Spamfighter installed?
SFOE0001.DLL could be either part of spamfighter software. Look at this link http://www.spyware-net.com/process/SFOE0001_DLL/1884/
Component Name: SFOE0001.DLL

Description of : This program eliminates spam from e-mail inbox so you would only receive important and relevant e-mail. It is compatible with Microsoft Outlook.

OR
Could be Malware

Quote "It is not a Windows system file. SFOE0001.dll is able to record inputs. Therefore the technical security rating is 50% dangerous....."

Then I would uninstall it reboot computer and see if problems continue. It may be that it has been corrupted.

If this improves the situation you can decide if you want to re install and try again or move onto another system.

Also check on Spamfighter website for any known conflicts with any other progs you run e.g. antivirus etc
SpamFighter cannot work with other spam blockers. The conflict may trigger the problem of unable to connect Internet

Spamfighter is by no means a new addition to this machine. It has been working seamlessly alongside AVG & other software for months. Could it still be SF that is the problem?

The problem does not refuse access to the internet, or to e-mail. It just closes down the application when closing an open window within that application. If I were to just keep minimising all the windows, there would be no conflict.

It's odd, but then with your help, I've learnt over the last few weeks that computers can be very odd!!

You stated "msimn caused error in SFOE0001.DLL". msimn is part of Outlook Express and SFOE0001 is part of Spamfighter. So to me it makes sense to remove SF first to establish if this is either the root cause or just part of a larger problem. The fact that it has been running ok does not mean that it has not become corrupt or another program is causing conflict. For instance AVG has mail scanner amongst other things which may cause issues - you may want to disable email checking etc to see if that has any effect

There may be an issue with low computer resources with too many running apps

EDIT: I will be away for the next week so unable to get web access - Good luck with this one.

I think the software is horrible, but I have found one solution:

Go Back.
