Ladder for use on slates(while slating)

Guys,
Is there a special ladder to use while slating?
Or can i put something together with lats that wont damage slates etc. while im laying?
Im thinking of a light wooden ladder and maybe stapling some old carpet to it.

With the pitch of your roof and the fact that you are using fibre cement slates it would be surprising if you damaged any slates if you walked on them with trainers.

If you want to be super careful then a good way to protect them is by laying sofa cushions (available from any good lay-by) on the slates with the ladder resting on them
