Hi Guys,

I`m 23, just got into my first house and the fiancee has bought some laminate floor tiles for the bathroom, the floating t&g stuff. Obviously she wants me to fit it, and this will be my first proper bit of DIY.

Basically, i`m confused how to start. I presumed that it would be best to start from the enterence door, so that if any pannels need cutting to fit, that will be at the other end of the bathroom. However I realised that the door frame gets in the way, even if i could cut it to shape then i need to leave a expansion gap. Are there any specific panel to hide the expansion gap near the door frame?

I hope you understand what i mean, its hard to put into words. The floor of the bathroom starts UNDER the door (width of the door). When that area is covered, to come into the bathroom I would need to cut the laminate to the shape of the door frame, with the strange beveled edge! I doubt that would even be possible and even if it was I would still be left with a small expansion gap. So what is the best way to hide the gap around the door frame?

you should under cut the door frame so the floor fits under it. And dont worry the frame wont collapse. Leave it to yourself where you think you should start from as the way i do it is hard to explain to a novice floor layer. You will probably be best working out of door way or along straightest wall i suppose unless you know how to centralize and scribe.

Hi mattysupra

Little question, do you also use a feinmaster for cutting doorposts? Handy tool

yes i do. I tend to use a door trimmer tho as cuts through nails etc and the tend to use the fein for hard to reach places where door trimmer wont fit.
