Hi All,

Planning to lay some laminate flooring on the ground floor of the house, concrete base and house is 5 years old.

Has anyone any advice about underlay with the aim of making it sound as solid as possible? Should I go for 2mm or 5mm expanded foam, or cork with a moisture proof layer added underneath?

Thanks,
M.R

Ive just laid some laminate flooring this week.

I used timbertech2 acoustic gold flooring - its expensive but the floor sounds really solid, Im pleased with it.
The underlay is seriously heavy -each roll weighs almost as much as a bag of cement.

Delivery was good - 48hours and they sent a text with a 2 hour time slot.

foxhole - Trying to do anything to help deaden the sound or reduce the hollowness of it.

Dazlight and Notch7, thanks for the pointers. I'll have a look at those.

I did some more digging on the forum and found a few recommendations for Duralay too who seem to produce the Timbermate Excel. I see Screwfix locally stock their Premier Wood and Laminate flooring underlay.

Layed on concrete there is no hollowness, you only get that on a hollow floor, like timber.

Got my hands and used some Timbermate Excel in the end, £4 sq m.

Pleased with the result!
