Laptop keypad letters won't work

HP compaq NV8240 Laptop.

2 of the letters stopped working the other day the letter E and D. Then today the letter C stopped. I can see they're kind of in line? Would this be a case of the KB dying or could it be a virus or spyware or something?

Never heard of a virus causing this.
New keyboards are quite cheap.
But firstly, ensure your case screws are tight underneath.

Get a small can of compressed air to blow the crumbs out from under the keys, or a soft make-up brush.
Remove the keyboard, instructions here, and clean out any dust and bits that you can see. Check that the cables are pushed in tight to their connectors and then try it again.
