I had the exactly the same issue the other day on a HP lapper. It turned out to be a faulty RAM stick. If you are OK to do this, try removing the following parts from the laptop and see if it boots with main power connected:
- Battery
- All RAM. (Don't know the specific laptop but some have two slots - one underneath and one under the keyboard - or other locations)
- HD
- CDROM/DVD drive
- Wireless card (maybe accessible - will usually have a cable connecting to it for the aerial)
- Bluetooth module
If it does boot - you may get post beeps as you have no RAM installed. Then one-by-one, install each device until it stops you will have then found the problem.
We have recently started using a company called Main Computer Services which offer a laptop repair service. They hold the website:
http://www.laptopsrepair.co.uk. They will pick up the laptop and send it back for a fee of £25. Free quoting. The will provide a nice pink box (from the courier) if you don't have one. They will provide a quick estimate over the phone, if you know the exact problem, otherwise you will have to sent it into them. We have used them 3 times since the new year and they seem to be quite good!
Tip I always give. If you can, remove the HD from the laptop before it goes away. Let them know it is missing. If you can remove it, make sure all your data is backed up - I know it will be a bit difficult if its dead though
Cheers
