Laptop Screen Whiteout

Hi

My wife has a Compaq Armada Laptop (Quite Old) sorry dont know the model and the screen is ok for a while, then it fades to white. Drivers are ok as rest of software.

Does/Has anyone seen this before? and do they know the cause.

no idea what so ever other than age, but can you try a differnt monitor? (plug in externaly)

It works fine with an external monitor. when it does work normally it shows all colours and images correctly, Then fades to white but with no change on external monitor.

This is not uncommon if you have a google for it.

Could be as simple as loose connections on your data cable that connects motherboard to LCD.

Does it happen when running on battery only? Is there any difference if the LCD is positioned differently?

Hi Doc

No there is difference to the screen if moved and is the same on battery & mains. Sometimes it will come back if rebooted, but not always. Is there anything (apart from the graphics card) that translates the signal on lcd screens.

Sorry am not up on laptops, PC's I can do, But laptops are too small and complex to work on.

Will get my chainsaw & screwdriver out and have a go at the clean & repair. It's not worth getting it done by a tech as it's an old model, but the Mrs likes using it when i'm online.
