Hi peeps

I have took some plaster off a wall and as i have took it off all the old motar has just crumbled and turned to dust. Leaving a massive gap.

Its an interior wall between two rooms. I think its original wall as its massive grey bricks that are like concrete blocks only they are light and crumble easy if not carefull. Old style breeze?? Iv attached pictures

Its tied into the exterior wall inner skin and theres a big gap between so i was a little worried it might have moved and been filled in previously. I dont think it has and probably just how they did it back then. Should i just get it pointed back up??

There should be metal ties between the two walls to hold them together. (Do an image search for "wall tie".)

Upon first glance it seems theres blocks of wood hammered into the mortar points of the inner skin bricks. There might be one somewhere but i really cant see it. Pictures attached

Another issue is both windows have 100x80mm wooden lintels above the windows inside the room, concrete outside. The problem is the bedroom next also has a wooden beam that protrudes into this room i am working on and is sitting what looks like a cracked brick. Dont look like much else is holding it. Attached a picture as its a little hard to describe.

I did get advice on the wooden lintel on another forum and was advised its fine. What i didnt notice was the other lintel is sitting only on that cracked brick and about an inch where is cracked off.

Why dont you stand back and photo the above areas in context - eg how does pic 1 tie in with pics 2,3, & 4?
Can you photo the wall/ window from outside?

Is the blockwork a room divider, a gable wall or a party wall?

Right here goes.. more pics attached

First picture is the room i am working on with the plaster removed.

Second picture is the next room that is on the oposite side of this wall. And as you can see the window is right up against this wall we are talking about. This is why you can see the end of the wooden beam.

Third picture is showing the big gaps in the wall between the rooms and also the end of wooden beam.

I have come to a conclusion that i need to also inspect the room next to see the lintel because if its bad, i will have to replace it while i have access to both sides. This will mean removing a brick in the wall, pictured in the 4th picture.

This wall is not load bearing, loft/roof rafters are not touching it. Just seems to be a partition. Maybe why its not got ties?

Hope this helps understand it a bit more.

Well it's an addition to the original building so maybe it was just a bodge diy job or maybe it is tied in with some nailed knocked into the wall.

Yes i can see cavity insulation where there is broken/loose bricks. Question is should it just be tuck pointed with mortar and left alone?

Im going to investigate the other lintel and im inclined to just change them to concrete when you consider the cost.

I forgot to add i dont think its diy as such but done by the council when it was converted. The main interior wall holdinv the staircase is built the same way. It must just be how they did it. Think im just going to patch it back up
