Hi all

I have an old router that has served me well for a few years with the odd job here and there, but it only came with a single straight “bit”.

I’ve now got a set of various other bits but they are all of a much smaller fitting - I’m guessing 1/4” v the original 1/2”.

There seem to be a few adaptor type pieces but I can’t seem to get the router to properly grip on the new bits with any of them.

Am I (a) stupid, (b) missing a piece or (c) are these not actually adapters. Help me out please clever people.

Photo shows the original bit with the collar that came with the router on the right and on the left is one of the new yellow bits plus a selection of items I’m hoping are adapters of some sort. Also a picture of the router if relevant in case they’re not all the same.

Thanks!

are they imperial as in {12.7mm}..1/2" [6.35mm]..1/4"
0r metric 12 or 6mm that would be loose??

What make & model is the router. Do you have the instruction book?

You have shown from the left a 1/4" bit, not sure but what looks to be a 1/2" tube or rod, what could be a 1/4" collet, a shiny collet - 1/4"? (don't think that fits), a 1/2' shafted bit and I guess the collet (1/2"?) you have been using.

from your first picture I thought you have one of those reducers, the one next to the yellow coated bit (its what I use)

anyways, I akso think Foxhole link is what you need

It looks v similar but doesn’t hold the bits tight at all.

out of curiosity what is the internal diameter of it (and the external) ? if you don't have measuring calipers see what drill is the closet fit
