Hi all,

I am looking at laser type measuring tools, they look expensive but much more convenient than a tape.

I would like folks' opinion on them and on whether buying a cheaper version than the disto is false economy. Mainly for kitchen fitting btw.

I have a Hilti one, I think it was around £130 4 years ago. Very accurate provided it is held level, +/- 2mm over 70 meters. Rubber ends so it can take a drop. If you are looking for somthing cheap I would look at the specification for accuracy. I would think to fit kitchens it needs to be accurate.

These Leica products look the gogs dollocks.

Most if not all of the cheaper ones are crap - the accuracy is poor (<3mm per m) and the spot is hard to see in bright conditions.

Disto and Bosch come to mind - some of the Bosch units are about £70 (ebay is cheaper), but always check the accuracy of the unit.

A light-up display is a good thing to have too
