A coachload of us went to see a Pantomime today,, (oh yes we did) . Anyway, on the way back home, around 6-30pm, a police van overtook our coach, and someone in that police van threw a lighted cigarette butt out of the van window. I was sitting behind the coach driver looking at the road ahead, and i saw the fag end bounce off of the road. The driver said to me,, "did you see that" and i said i did. I think the pratt that did that broke the law twice surely,, once for smoking on duty in the van, and the other for throwing "litter/fag end" out of the window. B/stards

Well, at least until they overtook the coach,,,,, He's behind you." ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I think some authorities allow Police Officers to smoke during their break times (in designated areas). However, smoking in ANY police vehicle would contravene Anti Smoking laws.

So you were unsecured in a vehicle? Oh yes you were. Cigarette littering is a controversial issue, as a cigarette is made from organic materials, that will organically reduce to organic waste. OH yes it will! If it was the driver that chose to smoke, then that's illegal, as an employed driver of a commercial vehicle isn't allowed to smoke. But a passenger is allowed to smoke. But are you sure the van produced the fag end? or was it thrown up from a vehicle in front of it? Is a cop really on duty, while in transport?

Or are you being anally retentive over something that really isn't an issue?

Never mind anal retention - anyone had the pleasure of a live butt end in the face while motorcycling  Same mentality that stands next to their diesel vehicle @ the petrol station click-click on the pump shutoff so they can brim the tank with diesel ready to lob half a gallon out the filler @ the next roundabout .

There was "no other vehicle" in front of the police van,,, the fag was thrown from it for sure. Try doing it youself and get caught MM, you'll soon find out if it's an issue or not.

Why do you think that roughcaster was unsecured? I'm sure there are some seats behind the driver

It doesn't even have to come out the filler: any diesel, when floored, will chuck out diesel droplets onto the road surface. Petrol cars do the same, but as the fuel is more volatile it just evaporates.

If you're on two wheels, be extra careful around the exits of trading estates (vans accelerating to pull out onto busy roads) or sliproads (diesel cars booting it onto the motorway)...

As to the police obeying the rules... it's important to remember that most police vehicles are not being driven by police drivers (i.e. traffic cops). That's why you see police cars and vans making illegal turns, cutting people up, speeding etc. with no lights, no sirens, but enough battenburg and spotlights to show they can't possibly be creeping up on a criminal in a car up the road.

I'm sure we all feel supremely smug when the idiot tailgater you moved over for gets pulled a few miles up the road by an angry-looking traffic cop.
