Hello,

Our lawn mower hasn't been running very well so I decided to see if there's anything I could do.

I just took off the filter cover and found this:

I assume it's the carburettor as I recently cleaned a carb on a hedge trimmer, I will give it a clean up but is there anything else I need to check for?

Thanks

There isn’t a fuel tap on this engine so either drain the petrol out or tie the pipe up high when you pull it from the carb.

Okay thanks, I'll just mow the lawn until the petrol runs out then, probably easier for me that way.

So I am taking the carb off then? doesn't look as straight forward as the one on my hedge trimmer.

These carbs are quite straightforward and much easier to work on than the trimmer one!
Do get all of the dirt and crap off first, and don’t bend the rod linkages.....best to take a photo too.
You may lose the odd gasket too - an occupational hazard!
You don’t describe the symptoms or problem though.....engine speeding up and down and not ticking over being the common ones.
Please post back if you want any help.

Just a thought......usually you can pull the carb off it’s studs to disconnect the linkages, but on some models the studs need to be unscrewed.

If you have any doubts about the air filter condition, bolt the air box back on and run the engine with the filter left out.
John :)

Check out Mick on you tube, loads of videos on how to clean a carb
