Right the grass appears to be getting thinner and thinner with more and more moss. The grass was laid about 12 years ago but wasnt the most expensive turf around if you know what i mean .The ground underneath the moss is very very hard what should I do...

Lift it rotavate it and relay

Remove moss and use seed

or invest in a couple of ton of concrete ?

Spring tined rake, rake out thatch and moss very harshly. Use fork to aerate soil by stabbing it in at regular intervals. Throw down a mix of sharp sand and compost (3 parts sand to 1 compost) and then re seed.

Will look a mess until next spring but will grow back nice.

Do this every autumn (perhaps not as harsh if its done regularly) and the lawn will be perfect every year.

Cheers Dan - can I reseed now or wait till spring and how deep should i go with the fork ?
