Hi, I've been given the above mower as my friend has a new one. I can't seem to find any manuals online to help with trouble shooting.

It starts and runs absolutely fine, but it doesn't self propel which I knew about, but I want to see what I can do with it. Not sure if it's a well known brand or not as I can't find any downloads for manuals/servicing. Any help appreciated, thanks.

If it’s the self propulsion you are worried about, look for a belt that goes from the engine to the rear axle.....it could be missing or just jumped off the pulleys.
Tip the machine back on its handles, not on its side unless the oil has been drained out.
Next, the self drive is engaged by operating one of the handles on the handlebar.......there will be a Bowden cable which could have snapped or needs adjustment.
If that’s all ok, then next we head for the rear wheels, but a bit at a time!

Thanks all, will take a look underneath when I can. I saw the exploded diagram but couldn't work out it showing a drive belt to the rear drive, but we'll see what I can find, or not as the case may be!

SP usually means Self Propelled so you should be in luck!
If the boss that holds the blade on has a pulley too, then it’s SP.

As it's rained every day, today I managed to take a look, yes it's been a long time, but the mower is outdoors under a tarp, no room in the garage, it's rammed full of ****.

Anyway, turns out the belt which is driven off the blade shaft, is perished and the pully which brings it in on the lever is also needing attention, so I'm nearly there! I just need to clean and regrease the bearings on the pulley and get a new blade, then take it from there........

Is that the pulley on the axle?
Careful with that one if it is, it’s held by a roll pin that’s pretty tight. Usually the pulleys wear thin if they are plastic.
John

No, don't recall any such set up. This is the pulley which comes in as you squeeze the drive handle.

OK, this model has the rear rollers then, rather than the two wheels.
Good luck with your project, send some photos if we can help you.
John :)

That's the one, rollers on the rear, driven by a chain through a gearbox. That mechanism seems fine. Thanks, will upload some photos when I can, looking forward to getting this mower out in the field!

Self-propelled mowers often propel themselves too fast to get a good cut. Leave that feature not working, and push by hand.
