Hello can I ask some advice please.

I need to lay an extra inch to level the floor in the kitchen and hopefully it will restrengthen the flooring as well.

I have been advised to lay waterproof sheeting but this would then stop this new layer sealing to the existing floor which is what i was hoping for.

I am in definately no position to get someone in to do this, i can afford the materials to try this my self thats it (been long term ill )

After I lay this top layer I was hoping to lay some tiles.

Is the waterproof sheeting so very essential?

I haven't purchased anything yet, was going to buy 4 ballast all in one and 2 cement I would be greatful for specialist tips. :

You'll probably find that the new concrete won't bond to old very well regardless, and in any case, tiling onto just an inch of concrete doesn't make for a very long life floor.

I think you're gonna have to dig down into that old concrete, the floor will get cold and probably damp too, without any DPM....and insulation underneath is pretty much essential as well. You won't get it all into your one inch layer.
You should definitely consider some underfloor heating while you're at it. Hot water or electric are the main types and are economic to run. Concrete floors are naturally cold, not nice at this time of year. Needn't be expensive or too difficult.

Otherwise, turn that 4ft square into a larder/pantry. Put an airbrick into it and store your spuds in there. The advantage of this is that you can put a layer of polythene, insulation and then screed, using this as the cupboard floor. It will of course be higher than existing floor but as it's a cupboard, who's gonna care?

Thanks its only taking a fridge freezer and someshelves.
I can't dig down as there is bound to be a can of worms waiting if I do and im in no position to deal with it at this time.

As I have no money I will have to do the Grano.

Heating isnt a bother its just a corner cupboard opened up.
But what i wanted to do was make the floor life a little longer untill im well and can return to work.

The grano is different to what i was going to use.

Thanks

Lay a piece of plastic down and go with the grano as a temporary measure.

If you are well enough to lay a concrete floor you will soon be back to work and can then do a permanent job of it :)

I'm assuming you want to lay a 25mm screed on top of an existing (old) concrete floor which is in good condition, not crumbling, no loose aggregate.

As a minimum:

wire brush the existing
remove any moss, algae with Ronacrete Ronabond Fongimousse Plus
wash with clean water
leave damp, but remove puddles of standing water
make a bonding primer of Ronafix and cement mixed 1:1 by weight or volume
apply this by brush to the damp surface
apply new 25mm screed before this dries
screed mix is, by volume, 1:2.5 cement:medium grade sharp sand mixed with a gauging liquid of 1:1 Ronafix :water (add enough Ronafix:water to the cement and sand to create a semi-dry screed which is wet enough to screed and finish but not too wet as to be untrowellable)
protect with tight fitting polythene whilst it cures, ensuring you tight fit edges to avoid creating a wind tunnel as air/breeze comes through

It'll need a few days curing at a min. of 10oC to be useable.

For 1.3m x 1.3m @ 25mm you will need 5 litres of Ronafix (plus cement and sand).

Well it's not often you hear that last bit. I don't celebrate and I'm sick of all this christian nonsense being rammed down my throat every year, I wouldn't mind but most of it comes from people I know to be non-religious but they're happy to jump on the christmas bandwagon every year..blah...moan...grumble...humbug

Anyway, have a good one yourself, if indeed you do celebrate, and let us know how you get on with floor.

I'm celebrating tomorrow, it's my birthday.
I share the same birthday as that famous geezer, you know the one I mean, what his names' son.
