Laying ceramic mosaic tiles on floor

Hello, I'd appreciate some advice.

I had a tiler lined up to tile my wet room floor and sadly he's let me down at the last minute. I can't find anyone else at the moment and thought I might try doing it myself. I have tiled before but only large format tiles on a floor, although I've done plenty of wall tiling.

I tried laying a couple of sheets to see how I got on. I didn't do too well. I found it really hard to get the individual mosaics level and had to lift the sheets otherwise I'd have had a real mess to clean up.

Is this a job I should even be considering as a DIY task or should I leave it well alone. If it's possible to take your time and do a decent job is there a guide online that would help me?

You need to get the surface flat and use a small notch trowel - 3/4mm. Press the mosaics down with a grout float. Can be tricky if the mosaics aren't regular.

I used the grout float as you suggested but I think I put down too much adhesive and tried to do too much at once. The mix was probably too wet and the spaces between the mosaics were full. A mess!

One of the probs I noticed was that the drain grill is adjusted to the lowest setting but even then with a 4mm notch the mosaics would have been too low. How would I build it up first? I'd be tiling onto waterproof membrane.

If you can't drop the drain then you might have to use SLC to bring the level up.

Not sure how I'd achieve this as it's on a slope...

SLC doesn't really self level. Mix it thick & use a plasterer's trowel.
