Laying Floor Tiles in a Brickwork Pattern

Hi There

From previous posts I've now ply'd and screwed my bathroom floor, self leveled it and am ready to start my tiling.

The wife has selected rectangular tiles and wants them layed in a brickwork overlapping style. I've never laid this way before so would appreciate some tips or a link to a guide or something.

You should be able to find something on here or certainly on Google if you search. It's easy enough to do - just like regular tiling but every other row is offset.

Still no matter what I search on offset, brickwork pattern etc I can not seem to find a laying guide or any tips.................

I don't see what the problem is. As long as you mark the centre point of the first tile on a row you lay, then line it up with the centre of the gap between the two under it then it'll work out. As with any tiling make sure you centre the pattern within the boundaries of the floor, so any shortened tiles are the same each end of a row.

you need to lat the first row of tiles as straight as possible as this will be the precursor for the rest of the job.

if your not in a hurry , you could even lay this 'starter' course the night before and it will give you something solid and straight to work to next day.
be sure to clean off any excess adhesive though.

That is a good idea to let the first row set first. There is no rush as it's just my home bathroom and we are using the ensuite in the meantime.
