Hi all
I have a house that is 7 years old.
The hallway has cream carpet  layed on chipboard (instead of floorboards) on joists ( I think)
The neibours have laid wooden flooring on top of the chipboard but, obviously, had to raise the skirting boards ( they didnt want edging strips)

Now I was wondering if i found some oak boards of the same width (18mm I think) then could i rip up the chipboard and lay the oak direct on to the joists

thanks in advance

why would you want to go to the extra effort and risk cutting through a heating pipe ???.

the chip board is just crewed to the joists
so i was hoping to avoid raising the floor and faffing with the skirting board

what i need to know is < apart from the aforementioned risks, is it do able and viable

Is viable, as long as your joists are not further apart than 35 - 40 cm and your new boards connect with at least 3 joists.
