Laying laminate flooring on stairs

I've tried searching the forum for any info on how to do this but I've had no joy.
OK, I want to replace the carpet in the upstarirs rooms (and landing) in my house with laminate (probably just the cheap plastic stuff, but I haven't decided yet). However, I have tiles throughout the ground floor and don't wish to have just the stairs carpeted so I'm going to need to fit laminate to them too.
So how do I go about it, do you just glue the laminate to the stairs or what? I'm gonna have to do something about the bull nose on the stair tread - do I just cut it off flush or pack the riser out level with ply? How do I join the top riser to the laminate flooring on the landing?
I've never fit laminate flooring before - what's the recommended flooring to use....the glueless or the glued?

I wouldn't recommend Melamine Lamited flooring on stairs, cause you will have to cut the boards to size (width of the step) on this will show the mdf/hdf and bottom layer of the board.
You will have a lot of saw-waste also using wide boards

So-called overlay planks (in any width availalbe) glued and nailed to the stairs might be a better solution

Hmmm, I see your point. I've found this site but it doesn't say how they get around the problem of the base material being visible.

They use stair nosings as finish to cover the base material (rather expensive method though )

Overlay planks are solid strips of 6, 9 or 10mm thick, normally no T&G and on both sides usable (= reducing your saw-waste). These are glued and nailed on the steps and riser. Then sanded and finished. You can even use a router to make that rounded edge on the step. Because it's all the same product it will only show the wood, not any other different (base) material
