Hello,

Can any one help me out. I'm laying a laminate floor in my kitchen and there is a stone hearth on one side which I wanted to lay the flooring over the top as I'd planed to make that area a breakfast bar. Problem is the hearth is about a cm over the hight the floor will be. I don't think I can removed it as its massive.

Any ideas, do I need to spend a bunch of cash raising the rest of my floor?

Thanks.

You could either, reduce the height of the hearth, increase the height of the main floor area to match or you could put a trim round the hearth to create a step. There are various ways to do the above, none are simple miracle cures though.

When I encountered this problem a while ago it turned out that the top inch or so of the stone hearth was actually a layer of cement which was easily chipped off. Worth double checking.

I agree with crazydaze but going with the trim would be the simplest and most cost effective
