He want to "re-commission" our fireplace and start burning smoke free logs in it. The marble and wood surround was removed and an oak floor is now right in front of the fireplace.
The carpenter has said we will need a lot of multicutter heads to cut thru the 18mm oak floor to lay the marble slab on the concrete/floorboards underneath. But it can be done he says. He's told me that every time he's seen marble fitted they always laid it on the concrete and he was always instructed to lay the floor around the marble. But our floor is already laid so we're doing this backwards.
So the marble can't be laid on the oak floor?
Under the oak just in front of the fireplace is a concrete block that goes to the ground. Rest of room is on joists and 18mm floorboards.
