Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible and legal to repair a pin hole in an internal lead gas pipe? It came to light when a nail which has been there forever was removed!

The gas company have shut the gas off currently.

Had a company out today who have told us all of the internal lead pipework has to be replaced in our property. Is this true?

Many thanks for any replies/advice received.

BG will do it, but will charge you through the nose. Get a reputable local RGI in, it should save you quite a bit of money over BG.

You could just replace the stretch of pipe that has the leak in it to save some money.

Getting the entire length exchanged from lead to copper might be quite pricey, although getting the whole thing replaced would be safer in the long run.

And what muggles said.

Also if you happen to have Homecare 400 from BG (Boilers, Rad, Electrics and drainage) The gas pipe is also covered, So barring any complexities in your agreement, this COULD be done free of charge.
