My question is about fitting lead slates, for either stack ventilation or vertical boiler flues.

Does a lead slate in these situations fit over the roof tile where the pipe/flue passes though (i.e. with a hole cut in the tile), or does the lead slate completely replace the tile?

Some lead slates look as if they have the tile under them, some look like there is nothing under them.

If you do cut the original roof tile, to pass the pipe/flue through, is an angle grinder best?

Hope this makes sense!

The slate replaces one or more tiles/slates and fits exactly as the original.

Roughly, you have a row of tiles up to the pipe, which the bottom of the slate sits over.

The next row, maybe over the tile of under depending on the type.

The row behind the pipe will be over the lead.

you cut the tiles with a disc cutter etc.
