I have a leak on a bar shower mixer valve. To unscrew and replace the washer do I need to hold back on the 3/4 thread somehow?

Turn off water supplies ,and loosen both hexagonal nuts, remove the bar mixer. Remove all traces of old washers/seals. Replacement is reversal of the above.

As long as the pipework in the wall has been secured properly and the nuts shouldn't need a whole lot to loosen, so it shouldn't put too much stress on the threaded sections where they need to be held.
