Leak in Slate Roof

Hello ,

Can anyone recommend a suitable product for fixing a leak between 2 slates , I have seen bitumen paint , but will that stick to the slate and fill the gap. I intend to do it from inside the roof so will be painting it on above my head so am concerned it will fall off before it cures. I have seen tape but will that stick to the underside of the slate ?

Is this just a temporary fix? I use putty.

Can you see daylight through the gap between the slates? If so then you've got a slate missing. Still my favourite bodge for fixing this from inside is a chunk of felt support tray cut to size and tucked into the slates (above the slate below the gap so that gravity takes the water from the gap and runs it onto the slate below and thence away).
