My boiler’s pressure has been dropping. My plumber is unsure why. After the boiler was isolated, the system pressure dropped 0.2 over the first couple of hours, but hasn’t dropped now for over 24 hours. The boiler pressure went up from 1.5 to 2.2 over the first 24 hours and has now settled to about 2.0. Has anybody got any ideas about what the issue is and where the leak might be. Is a slight initial drop in system pressure definitely a sign that the leak is in the system? Thanks.

Crack in heat exchanger and water evaporators when it is running.
No sign of a leak.

Expansion vessel can leak when pressure builds.

Boiler was turned off and isolated?

Yes it was off and isolated. I’m really puzzled. The plumber said on the phone that any drop system in pressure must be due to a leak in the system, but I’m not sure. The boiler has been noisier and I’ve been topping up the pressure two or three times a day the last couple of weeks, whereas it was once a day for the few weeks before that. Thanks.

If the boiler is isolated from the system and is not running, the only way the pressure can rise within it, is if the filling loop is letting by.

If the filling loop is letting by, when boiler is not isolated from system, then this (and increased pressure of boiler heating the water) will eventually cause the PRV to open and dump water (and pressure) out of the system. This will happen quicker if your EV is also depleted.
