I have a drain off valve next to the boiler. It leaks. Unfortunately there is no space to replace the whole valve as it is right next to the boiler in a very tight space.

I though if I just kept undoing it then the centre piston thing (is that what it is called) would come all the way out and I could replace the washer.

I tried, and it won't come out. I also tried to loosen the ring around the edge but that also didn't work.

Does anyone know how to undo it? Picture is below.

You need to loosen the ring. I've found it difficult to acquire right size washers so just replace the whole shebang from a new one.

You need to loosen the ring, then undo the centre shaft which will then come out completely.

Be aware that the rubber sealing washer may decide to stick to its seating, you can usually prise it off with a small screwdriver.

you need to grip the whole thing with suitably sized grips to stop it moving/breaking off. them use pliers to turn the ridged collar. it will be tough so keep at it. only other choice is to get a plumber in to swap it I imagine

Remove the ring completely, use a grip wrench to untight and remove.

Then unscrew the spindle and take it out and replace washer, washer can be taken from new drain valve and put onto old one and refix.

You will need to drain down in order to do the above.

Daniel.

OK thanks. I will have another go at getting the ring off then. It is really tight and won't shift at all. Perhaps a bit of WD40 will help.
