Hi, wonder if anyone can help with this one. We have a small "dormer" flat roof at the front of our bedroom which was re-coverered a couple of years ago (started leaking the day we bought the house!) so expected everything to be ok. It has now started leaking again. My husband had a look, it turns out the "flat" bit is pitched slightly backwards into a rainwater gulley which sits between the flat roof and the main piched roof - not a good design. The roofing felt itself looked sound as we would expect. He cleared out the leaves blocking this gulley which did improve things, but a few days later it is still leaks occasionally. We suspect that if too much rain comes at the wrong angle the gulley fills, is unable to cope and the water floods under the pitched roof tiles. Does this sound likely? and if so what could we do about it? The only reliable roofer we know seems to be on holiday. We are after a simple low tech fix if possible.

Thanks.

Won`t help with a low, or any other fix  It just seems like a strange layout to me

First of all make sure the gully is clear by rodding it. If what you assume is correct then obviously detail needs looked at. If by a quick fix you mean a bodge.....here is one worth trying. Take a thin counterbatten of 18mm. Apply a non setting mastic like evomastic to the underside of batten and force it under the slates. It may provide a temporary dam.

An undereave slate missing could cause this prob. or a lack of cover on flashing under the slate or slates themselves.
