Hi all,

I have the builders in doing a new driveway and they have
accidentally made a small crack about 4-5mm in length in
the outside lead supply pipe that connects the Stopcock to
the house.

They have said that they will repair it but I would like your expert
opinions on whether the lead pipe can have a long-lasting repair? and
can I ask what the common ways of doing this are? as I'd like to
make sure they don't bodge it before they concrete the driveway.

Thanks in advance.

If you have builders in and the lead exposed; I personally would get the lead ripped out and replaced to prevent water contamination - Do it whilst the opportunity is there.

As for the repair method; I will expect the builders to wrap it and hope for the best - We all know what they can be like... Ideally the cracked piece should be removed and replaced with copper-to-lead fittings and a fresh bit of pipe; however... If you're going down this road - My first statement rings true to me.

Another vote for the "get rid of the lead whilst you have the opportunity" idea.

Don't want to have to rip up a nice new drive because of another leak do you?

agree totally.P.S don`t blame them for splitting it ....most underground mains lead is just waiting to burst after all the years it`s been around
