hi all

Spent a bit of time installing a new toilet with new flex hose and new pan connector.

All went well until I noticed that water was slowly leaking from under the pan.

I looked all around the new pan connector which was dry as a bone, same for the flex hose. I removed and reinstalled ensuring cistern was correctly tightened.

Minutes later it was leaking again, I can’t remember if it leaked after a flush or not.

I then took the toilet apart and checked the pan. lookomg at the pan from inside I could see a hairline crack which appeared to have some sort of white putty on !? This is a brand new toilet.

Anyway I have not tried to put it back together yet as I think this is the culprit.

Has anyone experienced anything similar with a new pan? I can’t believe a crack would just be sealed up !?

Racking my brains about this and I will be until it’s sorted. Hopefully it will be fine with a replacement

As in where you would normally do your business .

I haven’t had this experience personally, I have had dodgy finishes on pans though. Any photos?

Sorry I didn’t get a photo but I will do, I’m away for few days but it’s just bothering me.

I suppose if the pan leaks when full without cistern even attached then hairline crack on pan is the problem

I've had this twice. Years back.

1st time Wicks paid for my time replacing the culprit.

I had the exact same problem a while ago I may have posted about it so will search for it.

I have had several instances where WC pans leaked. One only leaked when water ,upon flushing, entered the rim ,so if taken outside and water just poured into the pan from a bucket ,no leak. If water poured into the inlet of the pan it leaked. But the most bizzare was one pan that had a droplet of water appear on the outside of the ceramic ,high up around the area of the rim, when flushed. There was no visible sign of a fault ,even under magnification ,the water just appeared out of the ceramic ,like magic ,the droplet growing larger in front of my eyes until it got large enough to dribble down to the floor. Obviously a microscopic flaw in the thing. Luckily enough it was on the external so could be demonstrated to the householder ,who had purchased it for me to fit.

So I left pan in place with water in. Checked after a few hours and water is all around the base.

No cistern attached, no flow through the soil pipe. So there it is, cracked pan.

Online company are being funny about refund. Not my problem as helping a friend out, buying a new one tonight from s***f** which I’ll fit tomorrow.

Can’t believe the things you come across that you cannot predict!!!

Thanks for your help
