Hello all,

I have recently had to change a radiator. The new one is 500mm but the old one was 540mm. I got some extention tails from Wickes, they only had 40mm ones but that doesn't seem to matter as they screw well into the radiator. I have got a very very small leak from the tails, (1 or 2 drops a day) I put quite a bit of PTFE round the thread. Is it just a matter of wrapping more ptfe round or am I doing something wrong?
I am an engineer not a plumber but I don't like the way the tail screws into the radiator without "locking up" to a shoulder or anything. Also the gland nut slides along the pipe that screws into the radiator, there must be a sealing ring in there but are they reliable long term?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Phil

Bloody awful things!!

Unless there is no strain on the fitting at all they will leak. They will also leak after a year or so when the internal o-ring fails.
