leaking rad valves

I understand you can pack the gland on a rad valve to stop it weeping, but how do u do this?. Do you need to drain down in order to do this? Whats the correct way to do it.

If it's leaking between the nut and spindle you can try and tighten the gland nut. Small spanner and fingertips mind you, It should only need a little nip!
