Hi

I have a semi detached house with a connected rear dorma to my neighbour, about a month ago i came home to find water coming in through the ceiling rose.

We have since had the roof repaired and the leak is still coming.

I got a couple of quotes from people regarding replacing the rood, all of whom commented on my neighbours condition.

On speaking to my neighbour they stated that they had theirs done 23 years ago but had double insulated their ceiling.

Our concern is that the state of their roof may be responsible for our leak, with the water coming from their side and into our ceiling

Does anyone know if this is possible or would the problem only be caused by problems in our roof.

Any help would be great or if anyone has heard of anything similar and what happened?

Thanks

Yes its quite possible for leaks to track horizontally through the roof make-up. When you employed your roofer, were they employed to find the leak or just replace the roof? are you sure the new roof is not leaking too? Have the roofers been back? Did you talk to your neighbour at the time? what is the condition of their roof?

As stated the water can track from your neighbours side.
if you are renewing your roof and neighbour wont renew at same time the roofs can be split.

Hi thanks for all the very quick responses

They did have theirs replaced by 23 years ago and it is currently bowed and covered in moss, we are getting our roofer in again, he was only hired to repaire the roof and not find the source of the leek

in regards to the neighbours they are being quite stubborn stating that it cannot possibly be their roof as the do not have a problem

are concern lies in the fact that if we have ours repaired again and they still dont accept liability where do we go?

if you have a new roof why would it need repaired?
your roof can be isolated from your neighbours.

i do not repaired as in completly re done, but we are getting our roofer back in have another look.

How easy/cheap is it to get the roof seperated?

i dont know the size of your roof or the type of covering, but it is a relatively simple process to install and weather a physical barrier at the junction where the two roofs meet.

when your roof was renewed did he remove the old covering?.

But if the water is tracking its way horizontally from one side to the other beneath the top finish, 'separating' the two roofs will be more complicated.

he replaced the old covering

And that was my concern that the water is tracking over the covering board beneth the felt
